V8i Managed workspaces - personal settings

I have been looking into managed workspaces for Projectwise V8i.

I ahve imported everything it works.. and the speed compaired to the XM version is really good and usable.

    (1) I have applications in our Micorstation workspace that save settigns to the user cfg file for reuse in the next session. Thee setting do not seam to be saved back to the personal workspace for reuse in the next projectwise session. ?

    (2) as administrator I cn edit the personal workspace in microstation as a normal user I cannot edit the personal workspace but can see it.

I have set all the manage workspaces settings to full access for now.

     Best Regards,

    Ian Emery

      Ian,

There is a user setting that controls whether or not users can write to their personal workspace(some organizations do not want users to have these), perhaps this is turned off for your users?

      John

      Dear John,

The user settigns you noted were corrrectly set to on.

It seams the variables are changed by microstation while running but are only changed in the all variables settings and not in the personal user settings in the configuration settings. These personal settign in microstation never seam to change and are never rewritten back to projectiwse as far as I can see.

One importat note it seams the user settings are "correcly" saved back to the original hardisk workspace prior to import ?

These harddisk user settings are not re-applied during startup of the managed workspace (=ok)

      Best Regards,

      Ian Emery

      Hello Ian,

      (1) I'm guessing when the application is writing the variable (not sure where it would write it to)  it's storing it in memory for the current MicroStation session.  When using Managed Workspaces ProjectWise does not use the local User Configuration file and the CSB config files from ProjectWise are regenerated each time.  There should be a way to programmatically write the variable to the Personal Workspace in ProjectWise. It's possible it might not be supported.   I'll get back to you when I find more information.

      (2) As John mentioned, as long as the user setting "Can edit Managed Workspace Profile variables" is enabled for the individual you will be able to edit the Personal configuration from ProjectWise Explorer and MicroStation.  While in the Configuration dialog if you highlight the "Personal Workspace" Category you will not be able to edit the Personal variables, there is a TR for this.  You can only edit the Personal variables from the "All" Category.

      Dear Jef,

      I think I ran into point (2)

      (1) I am using code similar to

      Call ActiveWorkspace.AddConfigurationVariable(cIPlotSettingsPrinter, ComboBoxPrinter, True)
      Call ActiveWorkspace.AddConfigurationVariable(cIPlotSettingsColor, ComboBoxColor, True)
      Call ActiveWorkspace.AddConfigurationVariable(cIPlotSettingsBorder, ComboBoxBorder, True)
      Call ActiveWorkspace.AddConfigurationVariable(cIPlotSettingsServer, ComboBoxServer, True)
      SaveSettings

to save settings to standard settings files. I have enabled Edit personal worksapces and can edit the variables from projectwise.

I look forward to more information in (1) or a work around to say load and save local user settings files.

      Best Regards,

      Ian Emery

      Jeff, Ian,

Was there a solution to programmatically writing variables to the Personal Workspace in ProjectWise? I haven't been able to find any further information.

      Thanks
