    Excel Links and ProjectWise

We have ProjectWise V8 XM 4.8.9.36 and one of my users wants to sum numbers from several Excel spread sheets in several locations in projectwise.  He has done this in the past in Windows with Links.  Does ProjectWise work with Excel Links and automatically copy down the linked files?  If not, does anyone have a good way of using links in Excel with ProjectWise?

No, currently it won't auto-copy out referenced sheets.

Current best solution we've found is to create a flat set and drop the files into the set. then checkout the set.

Cons: All files in the set are checked out. Would be nice if in a set you could define some files as being checked out, and others as only copied out.

Also if your workdirs are different for each user, the links will only work for the one person.  Excel stores the actual full working dir path to find linked spreadsheets, so it breaks if that working dir changes.

Does excel link from ProjectWise now work in MicroStation with the latest mix of MSTN SS3 and ProjectWise SS4?  Or still no chance yet?  Thanks.

Is this still the case even with the latest versions of ProjectWise and MS Office?

Yes it is. Integration is based on the functionality available from the software SDK. The Microsoft OLE functionality hasn't changed since I started supporting OLE many years ago..

I do have a blog article Sometimes you just have to share… that discusses this.

Is this still the case for the latest release of PW 8.11.11.590 and Excel 2013?
