    Scan Spatial Locations Tool

    Hi,

Can someone tell me if the Scan Spatial Locations Tool and more specifically the Microstation Scanner in ProjectWise V8i is supposed to scan and extract extents from dwg files. I've tried in SS1 and SS2 and fail. Dgns are processed fine. The help file mentions CAD files in relation to the scanning tool, but doesn't mention dwg specifically.

If it is supposed to I'll log it as a support request, if not I'll raise it as a change request.

    TIA

    Andy

      Andy,

Make sure that your DWG file's associated application (this is a standard PW document property that can be viewed in the "General" tab of the document properties dialog) is associated with the "MicroStation Scanner".

For that you need to go in the admin->Spatial Metadata Scanner node, then double click on the "MicroStation Scanner" node in the right pane.

This will bring up the MicroStation Scanner Properties dialog, which lists all PW applications "linked" to the MicroStation scanner.

If your DWG file's application is not listed in there, add it.

Then go back to PW Explorer, and re-run the Scan spatial Locations tool on that same file.

      Hopefully this should do it

      Regards

      Thanks for the reply Jean-Marc,

I have it set up exactly as you describe.

Do you have it working with dwg then?

      Thanks

      Andy

      Andy,

Can you upload the file so I can take a look at it. If the file can be opened in MicroStation, then the extractor should also be able to open it.

      Hi,

Thanks for your help so far.

I've attached a file that contains some mapping information. It opens fine in AutoCAD as well as Microstation. I would appreciate it if you could let me know if it works for you.

      Thanks

      Andy

      Hi Andy,

Do you know what coordinate projection was used in the DWG file? When I open the file with MicroStation V8i-SS2, MicroStation reports that no Geospatial Coordinate System has been defined.

      Best Regards,

      Gary
