One external client user indicates that on a computer that has 1600 x 1200 resolution - he cannot see the icons or menu items. I don't have a monitor with that resolution - but did have one with 1440 X 990 and that

Re: Pw8i Web - External user unable to view icons
Woudl that change your perspective on the problem?

- Assuming web only - no PWExplorer installed - the DLL's/RSC files should not matter?

-Assuming web and PWExplorer - and the user is getting normal access and function for internal thick connection, but poor-limited talking to our web site .... then. Does version compatibility become a concern?
Greg,

Question 1: Possibly, the more information, the better. It is always useful to post what version(s) of software are in use as well as other pertinent information like the OS used, etc. But I don't think the missing icons or menu items are related to the user having, or not having ProjectWise Explorer installed. I would check to make sure that the user is using a supported version of IE as well as checking to see if the ProjectWise Web Server is actually "serving up" the necessary information by verifying the configuration on another external machine (regardless of the resolution of the monitor used).

Question 2: I would agree. The ProjectWise web client should operate independently of the ProjectWise Windows client (i.e. ProjectWise Explorer). There are plenty of users who use the web client only and don't have PWE installed and everything works fine.

Question 3: I'm not sure what you mean by "poor-limited talking to our web site". I would think that if you have access to the web site, then you would have access to all the icons and menu items. I would check to see if you have to necessary (and correct) add in for IE. I'm not sure what happens if you access different PW Web sites that are using different versions of PW. Perhaps someone else can answer that question. I haven't had to access multiple web sites that were using different versions of ProjectWise so I can't really say how it would work. Version compatibility is always an "issue", but you should get a message about that if it is a problem, not missing icons or menu items.

Other things I would check for the web client issues:

Is the ProjectWise Web Server working for any other external clients?

Is the version of IE supported?

Is IE configured as recommended for this user? (There's information about this in the "ProjectWise Implementation Guide" - chapter 12.)

Is there anything on the end user's machine (fire wall, anti-virus) that might be interfering?

Sorry I can't help more.

thank you for the reply. two comments..

1) the user is connecting to the PW8i web-part - but there is no gateway installed.

That being said -

2) the users company may in fact have Projectwise Explorer installed for their internal system. I'll need to verify.

Woudl that change your perspective on the problem?

as for the "automatic" repair - we've noted that in respect to other parts of the application. It seems bound and determined to run!

Re: Pw8i Web - External user unable to view icons

I don't think the screen resolution has anything to do with it as that is the same resolution as my monitor and I use ProjectWise Explorer (SELECTseries 3) remotely without any missing icons or menu items...

I would check to see if ProjectWise Explorer is properly installed. In the past, if you were missing the resource files (the files under ..\ProjectWise\rsrc), then you wouldn't see any text in the menus, just funny "numbers". Not sure about the icons, but they probably come from either .icon files or from inside of DLLs or EXEs that might be missing or corrupted.

I just tried starting ProjectWise Explorer (SELECTseries 3) on my box, but I first moved the resource files out of the rsrc folder, and PWE simply repaired itself! I don't know if "SS1" does the same, so I would try reinstalling (or repairing) the ProjectWise Explorer installation first and see if that helps.

A screen shot would probably help if you can provide one.
