    Tittleblock integration to which Layout?

    Jens Brandt
Jens Brandt over 11 years ago

    Hi

I am trying to set up a tittleblock intergration for AutoCAD files, and I am (sadly) well aware that ProjectWise will only sync with one of the layouts in a dwg with multiple layouts, asuming that each layout has an appropriate tittleblock. (ProjectWise SS3 and AutoCAD 2011)

But what I do not understand, is which layout ProjectWise syncs with?

I have a testfile with 3 layouts (Drawing1, Drawing2 and Drawing3), and each layout has a tittleblock. I did a Attribute Bulk Update, and ProjectWise was updated with the Attributes from the first layout, (Drawing1). Fine, so it is the first layout in the file, that ProjectWise syncs with. -I then moved Drawing3 to the front of the line, by simply dragging the layout tab. The layouts were then ordered as follows: Drawing3, Drawing1, Drawing2. I also took care to save the file with Drawing3 as the active layout, and even checked it in and the out again, to make sure, that Drawing3 in fact was the active layout. However, no matter what i did, ProjectWise kept syncing with Drawing1, and not Drawing3. Can annyone explaine to me why?

    Best regards
    Jens

      Hi Jen,

It is probably syncing with the first instance of the block it finds.

      Hi Scott

      Thank you for your sugestion.

-Yes kind of expected that to, but how can I predict which instance of the block it finds first?

The thing is, that if I know which block it syncs with, then I am at least able to understand it and maybe work arround it, but right now I do not get it...

      Regards

      Jens

Predicting that may depend a bit on the drawing setup, as in which layout the user selects when inserting the title block.

I'd expect that it will always find Layout1 first, assuming that there is a title block inserted into it.

The layouts are, from what I am told, stored in the block definition table within the drawing which is why I'd expect Layout1 to always be found first.  This is making some assumptions, like the user has not manipulated the tab names, added/deleted tabs, etc.

By "predicting" i was thinking along if I would be able to say, that the layout on the first layout tab would be syncronized from, or that that last open layout would be syncronized from. The assumption that users will not change layout name or order can unfortunately not be made in our company, so there must be something else that determines what layout ProjectWise is getting its syncronized attributes from?

My fallback plan at the moment is to have different attributes names in the tittleblocks for each layout. That way they may share the attributes the are common accros the layouts and I get all the information I could ever want in ProjectWise, but the problem is, that peoble will almost certainly mess it up the order of the layouts, and the naming will be of...

An other thing I stumpled upon: Why do DMSPROPERTIES in AutoCAD not work in the same way as TITTLEBLOCK MODIFY in MicroStation? They do more or less the same (showing the ProjectWise properties for the document), but where TITTLEBLOCK MODIFY also saves its edited values both to ProjectWise, and to the tittleblock, DMSPROPERTIES only updates ProjectWise. Why not have the do exactly the same? (I know it's just one click, but it bugs me!)

      /Jens

      Hello,

I  have tried to reproduce mentioned Titleblocks behavior, but I got all layouts updated with [AutoCAD 2012 + PW SS4].

May you try same TitleBlocks update workflow with ProjectWise SS4?

I have filed Change Request (CR 342121) to update Titleblocks in desing file after PW document attributes dialog is closed. So it would work the same as in MicroStation.

      Best Regards,
