    Revit integration with PW - is anybody using it?

    If anyone has any feedback on using the Revit inegration functionality with PW, I would be glad to hear it. We are planning a large project at the moment and PW has been proposed as the collaboration platform, but as it it our first major BIM project, I am wary about committing to it without testing first on a less critial project.

    Any user experience good or bad would be useful, thanks.

      Morning Brendan,

      We've used ProjectWise to collaborate on multiple projects. One of them being quite large, with a dispersed team between 5 offices.

      Few important items to note;

      1. There is a white paper out there, which describes the do's/don'ts of PW/Revit. It's important to follow this.. largely around the use of worksets, as opposed to on-the-fly element borrowing..

      2. If your project is being done across multiple sites, it's important to evaluate the connection speeds.. we had some serious trouble with this in the early days of the project.. though since resolved.

      3. Model management and federation is key, though this isn't specific to PW..

      4. Proper documentation, and user knowledge is incredibly important..

      I see that you've tagged this with BS1192, which makes me believe that you'll be attempting the whole "shared" process, essentially throwing the latest and greatest over the wall into a shared area, for others to references / pick up.. please be sure to put some serious thought into this. I'm a firm believer in real-time collaboration.. though I'm aware that BS1192 process is taking a slightly different approach.

      Most importantly.. communication, and workflow is key in collaborating on any project, with any software (especially Revit!).. all team members need to understand how they are to work, and why..  this is critical to the success of collaboration.

      There will be some concerns about the lack of on-the-fly element borrowing, and this is understandable.. but trying to achieve that across any WAN is challenging at best..

      Enjoy

      Thanks for the info Paul,

      Yes, I have read and digested the white paper, the BS1192 collaboration on the project is a client requirement, and as our core Revit team (Arch/Struct/MEP) is based in one location, the WAN latency issue won't be a problem. I'm also in favour of real-time collaboration, and will be monitoring the progress to see if we need to tweek the workflows to deliver the project more efficiently.

      Is there any impact on Revit file maintenance with using PW, and have you had any file corruption problems?

      Brendan
