I am looking to move a project from one datasource to a new datasource as we have issues with our current datasource. We use workflows using the Rules Engine with document codes. Both datasources use the same attributes.
I have tried the Excel Import/Export tool but find that documents will lose state info and version files come in out of order.
What options are there to accomplish this?
for projectwse you could remove the create document rights for the importing user for all the say in-progress, review, workflow states, so that the first state with create acess is the approved drawing state - any document you import will be pleased in the approved state.
Using the excel sheet make sure all the versions have the same proejctwise name - I "sorted" the excel sheet so oldest revision is imported first and then the newer versions in the same xls sheet. say sort by document number then version.
the problem is probably how clean or standardised is your data - many drawings in the same state same revision build up will be easy
I also remember there was a "copy to" function in projectwise that allowed you to select another data source (still the same state problem though)
Okay good idea on the create state that helps just a lot of work as I have files in all different states.
Sorting the excel sheet does help I learned that one.
The 'Copy to' or 'Copy out' feature doesn't allow me to copy into another datasource from what I can do.
