    Attribute Change in Audit Trail

Offline Shawn Foster over 9 years ago

Currently (within PW .123), when a user changes an Attribute of a Document, the Audit Trail marks the item as "Sheet Modified", but it doesn't tell me which Attribute changed, or what the new value is....

Is there a way to display what Attribute changed via the Audit Trail or another mechanism?

Hi Shawn unfortunately it does not out of the box configuration. You can have the users comment in the check-in process when they close the application and state the change they made (work around) However audit trail does not go in to details of the specific change.

Ranveer:  when you say "out of the box", are you suggesting there is a configuration that can do this, or would it require API programming?

      Thanks,

      Shawn

      Hi Shawn,

I asked development and they stated it is not possible with ProjectWise at this point.

      Regards,

      Ranveer

      Shawn,

You could use the SDK to "capture" what you want to know.

Basically you would have to use a PreHook and make a copy of the items that you are interested in that might change.  Then in a Posthook, you would compare those items with what they are after the change.  You could then create a comment in the audit trail.

To be clear, this approach will only work for the ProjectWise Explorer client, not for the web client.

Actually, I think if you hook AAHOOK_UPDATE_LINK_DATA, and install and register your customization on the web server, this will work for the web server as well.  Not confirmed, I'll dig in a little more.
