ProjectWise Upgrade from V8i to CONNECT

We are currently running ProjectWise Server V8i (08.11.11.123) on our PW server, and ProjectWise Client V8i (08.11.11.123) on our workstations.  We are looking to upgrade to the CONNECT Edition versions (10.00.02.265).  Which of these upgrade sequences maintains continued compatibility between all workstations and the server?

    1. Upgrade the workstations to CONNECT, then upgrade the server to CONNECT.

    2. Upgrade the server to CONNECT, then upgrade the workstations to CONNECT.

    3. Upgrade workstations as available to CONNECT, then upgrade the server to CONNECT, then upgrade the remaining workstations to CONNECT.

Note that our installs are done by IT and are not deployed, unattended installs.

All will work. We typically go with option 2. In fact we upgraded our servers to CONNECT back in November and are still working on upgrading workstations to CONNECT.

      Hey Kevin,

I have a follow-up question.  Is it safe to update the PW Server and workstations to CONNECT before upgrading IPLOT Server/Client, MicroStation, and application proudcts (AECOsim, ProStructures, etc.)?

The only part that wouldn't work is IPLOT. Least in my case, older V8i version of Interplot Organizer won't work with a CONNECT iplot server. We're in the process here of upgrading all our servers to from V8i SS3 to CONNECT before we even look at doing any client change over (which are unattended/pushed). Luckily the population of users using Iplot Organizer is very small.

      Thanks, Stephan.

I am considering building a NEW IPlot Server first with CONNECT, then upgrading PW Server to CONNECT.  Next, I would upgrade MicroStation and PW Client on workstations, followed by upgrading workstation IPlot Organizer to CONNECT and migrating users from printers on the IPlot V8i server to printers on the IPlot CONNECT server.  We would then retire the IPlot V8i server.

That sounds like a good plan to me. I haven't really puzzled out what we're going to do to migrate to IPlot Organizer Connect yet. I may steal your plan.

yeah, that's pretty much what I'm doing. It was made easier that all the server side installs were going onto new VM's from scratch so I am able to keep the old V8i services up while transitioning. But like I said, our population of users that have Interplot is small. Cutting over to the CONNECT Design Integration servers is being accomplished by keeping the old servers in gateway mode to redirect to the new servers. Then when we do our client upgrades we'll be using new Gateways that are centrally addressed.
