How can I move a file to a different storage?

Hi all, I am very new to PWPS and to this forum. So I'll offer my apologies in advance if my questions seem (too) simple or too complicated for this gremium! But I will try anyway.

In short: We would like to move a file from one storage in PW to another. Mind you, the current storage of this file is NOT the same as the current storage of its folder! Any help is welcome!

Extra background information for patient and/or puzzled readers:

Our goal is to move old PW-data to other (cheaper) storage. For various reasons we did NOT want an extra datasource. We want to keep the folder structure, access rights and metadata in PW intact, and easy access to the old data. We created an extra PW-fileserver.
When testing a script to move old data to the new storage we had these results: after the move a lot of the files were 'not found on the server'.

This was caused by the following.

The script uses the storage of the folder, and assumes that all of its contents (cq in the same logical folder path) will be in the same physical storage as its folder. But at some point during the life cycle of the folder, its storage was adjusted, let us say from A to B. Which meant that the newer content of the folder will be stored in the new storage B, whilst the old content physically stayed in the former storage A.

After executing the move (to storage C), the database points for the folder and all its documents to the new (logical) path C. But physically only the files that were on B were moved to C; everything in the folder that was on A is still on A, but the database doesn't know/show.

See picture for an example of the old situation: files are in 3 different storage, depending on the creation date. After moving to a new storage X the view will show X for all documents, but only the most recent file will actually be found there.

    Thank you for your patience!

    Yvonne

Unfortunately, I don't think we have any cmdlets within PowerShell to help with this task.  We only have cmdlets to handle all documents in a folder.  Update-PWStorageAreaForProjectTree.
