Multiple Page PDF from Models without IPS files

Hi All,

Can anybody confirm that ICS can produce multi-page PDFs from design files with multiple models without an IPS file?

We have hundreds (and hundreds) of design files with multiple sheet models and we're looking to publish these as PDFs. Defining a IPS file for each of these, and future designs is not really a conceivable option.

Dawn Clark Gentry seems to suggest this is possible in forum thread titled "Multiple page pdf from file with multiple plot shapes".

I am able to produce multiple single sheet PDFs easily enough using the IP_SHEETDEF_MODELS variable for the model name in the settings file, and these are being distributed fine, but the option in the PDF 'Output File Format' to 'Create one multi-page PDF document for each IPS file' appears to have no effect in this scenario.

I understand that I'm not using IPS files, but was hoping that behind the scenes that one was being created and this would work.

If anybody has any suggestions, they'd be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jim

If you want to create a multi-page PDF from multiple input files, you will need to use an IPS file as the input on the iCS rendition job. My statement that you reference was a bit confusing. You can get multiple renditions from the same DGN file if using plot shapes or models, but each plot shape/model area will create a separate PDF file, not a multi-page PDF file. The only way to get a multi-page PDF automatically from iCS is to use an IPS file as input.

Thanks for the prompt reply Dawn. My fears have been confirmed ;)

It seems like the 'Composition' part of got missed in ICS' software design. Compounding the issue is adding multiple models from the same file is a pain with Interplot Organizer as you need to browse into the pw folders each time your adding the same file, and the sheet/model selection is via view groups so if you didn't have the 'Create View Group' when the sheet model was created, then selecting a model isn't straight forward (need to use a settings file). Its a very archaic piece of software and wouldn't subject our poor cad users to it! The solution might be for us to create a pw customisation to create IPS files in batch, but not sure how that's going to work out. /rant

Anyway, if you're ever asked for your input on software enhancements to ics, please raise the put forward the possibility of creating multipage PDFs from multisheet DGNs.

Dawn, has this change request been implemented into iCS? we need the ability to create multi page PDF from multiple DGN files instead of one PDF per DGN, without having to use IPS files.
