    Batch processing

    Hi All

We have a ICS server where people send their print job.

    Here the situation

We have two users sending a job of 50 documents, few seconds later, we have another user that send a 2 document job

That last user need to wait until the first two previous job are complete.

Documents of the first job are being process one by one, then document of the second job,,,, then the last two documents

Anyway to have that process speed? Does having ore ram or more core would help???

Hi Luc, you can configure ics to use multiple iplot processes. Its not clear in the manual/help, but if you launch the ics CONFIGURATION WIZARD from the start menu, then on the 4th screen select custom. then on the next screen you can actually scroll the dialog down and set the separate number of processors to configure.

By default the installer only installs one of each of extraction processor, interplot processor, projectwise connector.

The number of interplot processors should be less than the number of cores your computer has, so if you have quad core, have no more than 3 interplot processors (as the Bentley View (or microstation) which it will launch will consume 100% of core).

You need to spend time playing with the number of the different processors and sending large jobs to try and balance extraction/processing/distribution tasks so that one doesn't streak ahead of the others.

Also, you may need to run the configurator a couple of times to get the settings to stick! A reboot is always a good idea too.

On our quad core server (virtual) I have found that 2 extraction processors, 3 interplot processors, and 3 projectwise connectors works quite well.

BUT this will not help the two jobs being sent at the same time problem, but it will get through the job 3 times as quick. HTH, James

      Thank you James

Will look at the help and the documentation and see what I can find regarding the Interplot processor and Projectwise connector. Those are new stuff for me.

If you have some screen shoot to share to help orient me. Server was already pre-configure when I take on that PW cad admin.

      Hi James

I found some documentation but I could not find any distribution service setup executable that I can run? ( Start > All Programs > Bentley > ProjectWise V8i (SELECTseries 4) > Distribution Service > Distribution Service Configuration)

Should I look for something else? Is it possible it was not install as part of the initial setup?

Hi Luc, You need to log onto the ICS server, then in the start menu you should be able to find shortcut for:

"Bentley i-model Composition Server Configuration" in the start menu.

Alternativly you can run it directly by finding the <program files>\Projectwise\iCS for PDF\RendscvConfig.exe and running that.
