    DMS Convert

The dmsconvert utility is used to migrate the database schema of an existing ProjectWise database to meet the requirements of ProjectWise V8i. This utility is delivered with the ProjectWise Integration Server installation.

This technote is meant to save you time investigating typical install issues prior to calling Support.

    Before performing the DMS Convert:

    1. Make sure everything is checked in! This includes 08.11.05.xx and 08.11.07.xx versions.

2 . In your pre-dms convert production environment, make sure the PW Admin "God" account has Access Control unchecked. This is done via the PW Administrator in the User Properties.
    3.  PW Admin must have Full Control to ALL the folders at the Datasource level.
    4. Create a new back-up copy of your production database.

    During the DMS Convert:

If the DMS convert fails, start again with a new "fresh" backed-up copy of the database.
*** You cannot run another convert on the same database that just failed; it WILL fail on every subsequent attempt.***

    After DMS Convert:

To avoid other issues such as performance degradation, the following are typical DBA functions that should be performed after your dms convert.

    • Make sure that the statistics are updated. **Specifically to Oracle, TSG has seen significant performance loss when the statistics are not updated after a convert.
    • General database maintenance should be performed and scheduled regularly.
    • Databases (ProjectWise and OF) should be backed up periodically.

    Database

Check that the ODBC and Database drivers you are using are listed in the drivers tested list in the ProjectWise readme.

Having difficulty with the ODBC connection?

ODBC connection on a 64-bit Windows 2008 Server, go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe to create the connection.

SQL 2005 with an Orphan User

The schema name needs to have a login with the same name

    SQL 2008

If you do a DMSCONV on a SQL 2008 database without SP1, you may possibly get an error.

There have been a few reported cases where this has occurred.  Once SP1 was installed, all went well.

SQL 2008 with PW 08.11.05.37 (Do not use NT Authentication) to connect

If using the delivered SQL Express you will need to change the Server Authentication to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode." By default, SQL Express is set to "Windows Authentication Mode."

     To perform this action:

o Open up the SQL Server Management Studio
o Log in with your Windows credentials
o Right click the Server name>properties>Security and you will see the radio buttons at the top.
o Change that to SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode and you can log in with a SQL Server account.
o Make sure you set a password for the sa account if you are using that username.

Moving from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 Server

    Integration Installation Errors

Install Integration Server without the Automated File Processors.

    • Run the dbsetup.exe from C:\Program Files\Bentley\OrchestrationFramework and switch it to ‘Use a specific username and password'. Once it installs, run the dbsetup.exe again and switch it back to 'Use Windows NT Integrated Security'.
    • Verify that you do not have the Virtual Network Connection (VNC) Service started.

If so, stop the service and install ProjectWise Integration Server.

If you are still having issues please obtain the dmsconvert.log and pwadmin.log files which can be found in

C:\Documents and Settings\(id your are logged into the machine)\Application Data\Bentley\Logs
