    What character set can I use with ProjectWise 2004 and Oracle 9i?

    When using ProjectWise 2004 and Oracle 9i you must use the AL32UTF8 character set in Oracle.

    Will I need to upgrade my SELECTserver licenses to ProjectWise 2004 or will ProjectWise 2004 work with ProjectWise 8.1 licenses?

    No you will not need to upgrade your SELECTserver license file. ProjectWise 2004 will work with ProjectWise 8.1 licenses.

    Does ProjectWise 2004 require SELECTserver 2004?

    No. ProjectWise 2004 will work with SELECTserver 8.2, however, Bentley recommends to upgrade to SELECTserver 2004 to take advantage of the enhanced reporting functionality.

    In the ProjectWise Explorer 2004 Edition document Address Bar, what is the difference between addresses beginning with "pwdesc:" and "pwname:"?

    ProjectWise Explorer can be configured by each user differently to display either a folder or document's name or description. Because the address can be sent to other users, the path needs to reflect whether the path and file in the address was shown using the File Description or the File Name, so that ProjectWise Explorer knows how to interpret the information it is receiving in the Address Bar.

    I noticed that when MicroStation is opened through ProjectWise, it now shows a list of files last used. At times the list shows one list of files with the path and filename, and other times it shows a different list of files. Why is that?

    ProjectWise now displays a "Most Recently Used" file list from your ProjectWise datasource. The reason you see a different list at times is that if you open MicroStation while integrated with ProjectWise, it will list the filenames of the last x number of files (document name) this login has accessed from the ProjectWise Datasource (this is stored within the database).

    If you open a MicroStation session that is not integrated with ProjectWise, then MicroStation will show the MS_FILEHISTORY of the last x number of files you accessed from your desktop as stored in your MicroStation user preference file (*.UPF).

    How do I enable ProjectWise 2004 Edition to automatically log me in to the datasource using my Windows Domain credentials?

    This is referred to as Single Sign On. Single Sign On is disabled by default for all datasources on a server. To enable single sign on for a particular datasource, your administrator will need to make some configuration changes.

    Open the "dmskrnl.cfg" file (located on the Application Server under the ...\ProjectWise\bin) and add the line "SSO=1" to the end of the section containing settings specific to that datasource. Below is an example of the dmskrnl.cfg file:

    [db0]
    Description=vinny85
    InterfaceType=ODBC
    Name=vinny85
    Type=Microsoft SQL Server
    DBUserName=sa
    DBUserPassword=000111a7
    DBUsrPwdDecrypt=1
    DBAdminUserName=sa
    DBAdminUserPassword=000111a7
    DBAdmPwdDecrypt=1
    SSO=1(starting with [dbo], [db1], and so on)

    For more information, see "Enabling / Disabling Single Sign On for a Datasource" in the product help file.
    For general information about settings in "dmskrnl.cfg", see "Server Configuration Settings (dmskrnl.cfg)" in the product help file.

    I would like to see my subfolders displayed in the document list on the right frame of ProjectWise Explorer. How can I do this?

     This can be done in ProjectWise Explorer 2004 Edition. To do this you need to change a user setting:

    Tools > Options

    Select the Document List Tab

    Turn on the option to Show Sub Folders

    If this tab or option is not visible for you in your User Settings dialog, contact your administrator for access.

    When using the new pre-caching capabilities (fetchfiles.exe) delivered with ProjectWise 08.05.01.25, does it need to be run on a remote server or can it be a workstation? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

    Fetchfiles.exe behaves like a client in that it will physically check out each file to the local drive and populate the cache on the way down. Thus, using fetchfiles from a remote workstation (as in pre caching all FTS's from a central location) will use up extra bandwidth. It is recommended to run fetchfiles.exe from a client in the same geographical area, but not on the same server, as the caching server.
