    ProjectWise V8i Installation - Error 1720

If you have pre-defined the location for the Bentley_index prior to the installation of ProjectWise V8i (v08.11.05.37) according to the instructions in PWImplementationGuide.pdf, you will probably receive an Error 1720, and the installation will roll back.

You will see this error in the event log:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: MsiInstaller
    Event Category: None
    ...
    Description:
Product: ProjectWise Indexing Service V8i -- Error 1720.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action ConfigFTR_x64 script error -2146828275, Microsoft JScript runtime error: Type mismatch Line 147, Column 13,

TSG have registered a TR number 272823 (PW Indexing Service installation fails if bentley_index is preset before installation by manually creating the bentley_index catalog) for this issue.

    Here is the work-around.

Actually what is wrong here is that FTR setup has been changed in V8i and the Implementation Guide should be updated (this is what the TR requests). Now to preset the location of the bentley_index the following procedure should be used (instead of following the V8i Implementation Guide):

    [v8i] procedure
    You pre-create a registry key:
(on 32 bit machines) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bentley\ProjectWise\Automated File Processing
(on 64 bit machines) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bentley\ProjectWise\Automated File Processing

You create the following "String" values under this key and specify the values pointing to wanted folders:
    Name                          Sample value                    Meaning
FtrIndexCatalogDir    D:\PW-ftr-index                  Folder under which the Microsoft content indexing catalog will be created and maintained
FtrIndexDataDir          D:\PW-ftr-index\data        Folder where ProjectWise will store and maintain the extracted file data
ExtractionTempDir     E:\pw-temp-files              Folder where AFP will temporarily store files during the extraction process

You proceed with product install; PW will honor these registry keys during setup, and will use these values for operation afterwards.

This also affects all manual "FTR catalog Move" support scenarios, in addition to pre-v8i requirements the above registry values need to be properly updated after any manual configuration change to the catalog locations. All service stopping procedures still need to be obeyed.
ExtractionTempDir may be changed at will, without any restrictions.
