Prior to the V8i release, ProjectWise Orchestration Framework (OFW) did not use the standard logging mechanisms as the other ProjectWise products. This TechNote will review standard troubleshooting steps and tips regarding OFW as it relates to ProjectWise Document Processors (Full Text Indexing, Thumbnails and Property Extractor.)
This TechNote assumes ProjectWise Integration Server is installed with the Automated File Processing (AFP) feature, and has at least one of the AFP engines enabled. The Orchestration Framework database information configured during installation will be needed; this includes the server name, database name, username and password to connect.
Install the Orchestration Framework Administrator (also known as ProjectWise Distribution Services Administrator or Automation Services Administrator) found in the ProjectWise Admin Setup files. Launch the Orchestration Framework Administrator (OFA), via the Start menu: Start >> All Programs >> Bentley >> ProjectWise V8 XM (or 2004) >> Orchestration Framework>> Orchestration Framework Administrator Choose Connections >> Connect >> Orchestration Framework Browser Provide the database information configured during OFW installation in the database setup window Expand the Instances tree and right click on the appropriate extraction tool name and select Monitor
Figure 1 shows a standard example of a thumbnail extraction monitor, with everything running properly.

Sometimes more detail is required than just the monitors in the OFA. This section will explain how to run OFW logging using the Bentley Logger.
*Please note: This utility is no longer available with the release of V8i, as the logging has changed. See the ProjectWise V8i help and administrator guide for more information on OFW V8i logging.
With the OFA window active, hit Control-Alt-G on your keyboard Select Monitor >> New Monitor Name the monitor when prompted Choose Monitor >> Configure (see figure 2) Select the Level Wildcard in each of the four sections (note there is a scroll bar within the window Select This Monitor, Put as DISPLAY Config and Put as FILE Config Hit OK

Figure 3 shows the Bentley Logger data. Entries are color coded to easily see if things are running as normal. Any red entries should be looked into more carefully while troubleshooting document processor problems
Figure 3: Bentley Logger
When attempting to launch the Bentley Logger the following error appears. "The system cannot find the file specified" (see figure 4). Bentley Logger requires Java in order to run. The Solution is to install Java Runtime Engine from ProjectWise Server setups.
When attempting to launch the Bentley Logger the following error appears. "The system cannot find the file specified" (see figure 4).
