ProStructures SS8 for AutoCAD

Hi,

Does the feature list shown here:  http://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/drafting___detailing/w/structural_drafting_and_detailing__wiki/28429.what-is-new-in-prostructures-v8i-selectseries-8-v08-11-14-195

.. Does that refer only to the Power Prostructures version?  Not the AutoCAD version?  When will the ACAD version of Prostructures be available?

A few other questions:

Q1.  The 'stand-alone' version of ProStructures (also known as Power ProStructures), is just ProStructures provided with MicroStation, is that correct? Power ProStructures is not really a stand-alone software, but it includes Microstation in the Power ProStructures license.

Q2. I've been told that the IFC export feature, that will be available in Power ProStructures SS8, WILL NOT be available in the ProStructures SS8 for AutoCAD. Why is that? What other features are exclusive only to the Power ProStructures or MicroStation versions? Will this be a trend in the future (limited software for ACAD, full software for Power ProStructures and MicroStation versions)?

Q3. What would be the benefits of an existing ProStructures ACAD user switching to the Power ProStructures version?

Thanks a lot for any help.

  • There will be an eSeminar in June and more Information very soon. Standalone, in other words, will say that there is no additional cost besides your ProSteel license (for a Platform Software). Yes, the basis for this a partially a runtimeversion of Microstation SelectSeries4.

  • Previous posts on this Forum have stated that Bentley will continue to develop and support the AutoCAD hosted version of ProStructures.
    Is that still the case?
If so, when might we expect to see the AutoCAD hosted version of Series 8?

My understanding is that a majority of existing ProSteel users are using the AutoCAD hosted version.

For me, one of the chief benefits of ProSteel is the ability to leverage existing AutoCAD investment, knowledge, and customization for the specific purpose of detailing structural steel. I cannot speak for anyone else, but in my own case, more than twenty years of AutoCAD customizations, as well as 5-6 years of ProSteel customizations using ProSteel COM interface via AutoLISP, are an investment I do not wish to lose. I am not interested in learning to use, let alone customize, MicroStation or a product based on MicroStation.

I sincerely hope that Bentley chooses to support existing customers with an improved version of the product we are now using, and have been using since the inception of ProSteel. Should that not be the case, then I believe that Bentley will alienate a large portion of existing ProSteel customers.

I know that to be true in my own case. If the future of ProSteel is only a MicroStation based product, I will definitely choose a different solution.
  • Thanks Johannes.

Can you please adress the other questions in the original post?

Herman, I agree 100% with everything you have said.

  • @ Bentley:
Not even the dignity of a response?
    Astounding.
  • Hi Herman M,

I am sorry that we have not had the chance to respond. These kind of questions are best answered by our Product Manager. I will pass it on to him.
