How to cut rebar around existing hole in concrete shape

I'm trying to cut rebar from existing hole in concrete.

Is there a tool that i can extract this hole shape and then use to select as polycut to then get my cut rebar?

Using Version 10.02.01.11

  • Hello Nicole,

Thanks for posting this query in Bentley Community Forum.

I have tried this to get the Rebars to be cut according to the oval openings, but I could see the oval shape it is not considering. So I made it possible using the Arc + B Spline and adjoining those to make a polyline which finally looks like a Oval geometry and using that geometry, I was able to get the Rebars get subtracted from the Solid.

    Followed the following Workflow.

    1. Draw an arc to match the curvature, then copy and mirror the same in other side.
    2. Mirror again the two arcs in other side.
    3. Now again draw an B Spline in eft side and then copy mirror in other side.
    4. Now combined all the lines using Complex chain method.
    5. With this, I have constructed the Oval shape geometry.
    6. And using this geometry when I used Modify tool, I was able to subtract the rebars from the Solid.

I hope this will solve your issue.

  • Thanks Sandip however i believe there's a simpler solution that was provided:

I used the Extract Faces and it worked.

using the Extract Faces/Edges tool (at the end of the Solids tab of the Modeling Workflow) with the Extract mode set to Edges to extract that inner opening. If the edge is extracted as a closed element, then it can be used to cut the rebar set. If not, then I would extract the top face of the concrete element using the same Extract Faces/Edges tool and drop the extracted element with the “Complex” option checked and all other options unchecked – this will drop the face to two separate elements, the outer edge and edge of the opening, and you can then select the inner opening shape to cut the rebar set.

The item I'm having now is what controls the amount of trim? as i would like to see more bars in the empty areas below.

  • Without being able to test the behaviour myself currently, I'd like to chime in.

When using the Polycuts, what will that do to rebar positioning? Will every bar which is cut become a unique bar with the actual modelled length? Or is it possible to leave them as "full length" bar in positioning and rebar bending schedules?

The reason I ask is that - depending on the type of concrete element and the type of opening - we often layout the rebar first on full length, then cut away the holes. So if the bar bending schedules define the "final" lengths then we would have the wrong lengths on site.
