autocad to Miscostation export

Greetings,

Am about to work on Corp of Engineers project and they spec that output is to be in Microstation format. Am using Prosteel by Bentley in Autocad 2010. I am  aware that Autocad has an export function to prpoduce .dgn files. My questions are these. Is this a good, clean translation and are there any known glitches? Any special adjustments required in Autocad required to make the export better? Any special font requirements? Line types, etc??

One last questions, is Microstation offered in a "light" edition?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Ron,

As far as the "light" Microstation is concerned, you may want to try out Bentley Viewer/Navigator.

    This is a test

  • Ron, if it's a USACE project you'll also want to review your contract, particularly attachment F.  There's usually a stipulation about the deliverables themselves and what they should be.  For example, are you providing 2D drawings only?  PDFs?  3D models with intelligence?  Some combination?   This could make a big difference, because a file transferred from ACAD will not have Structural Modeler properties, which is where labels and resymbolization comes into play.  You just want to make sure you can actually create the deliverable using your modeling/detailing method.
