I have just read the following in this article - http://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/structural_analysis___design/w/structural_analysis_and_design__wiki/13980.upcoming-select-release-of-microstran-products.aspx
What is available in the new SELECT versions of the Microstran products?
The most significant enhancement is that the products are now licensed in a far more sophisticated and useful manner: through Bentley Connect SELECTservices. There are many benefits this offers over the hardware locks previously used. Some of the most important are:
The following improvements have also been made:
Hopefully we are also going to get some productivity enhancements. I'm not that bothered how the product is licensed (OK that;'s not true - see my part posts onb the subject!!), as long as it works and I can do things more efficiently.
What are the future development plans for Microstran now that a SELECT version is available?
The next release of Microstran coming later in the year will incorporate an export to Bentley’s Integrated Structural Modeling (ISM) format. This will allow reuse of Microstran models in information modeling and structural detailing software such as ProStructures, AECOsim Building Designer, REVIT, and Tekla.
How is this going to help me if I'm working in 2D or don't use the other products noted? Mind you i do have Revit so there may be some hope.
Why have you moved this? This is a MicroStation question which is why I put it in that forum. Please move it back.
stuartw, please read your topic and what product you refer to. In your topic you mention "Microstran" this is not a MicroStation. Be Communities articles for Microstran are: https://communities.bentley.com/products/structural/structural_analysis___design/w/structural_analysis_and_design__wiki/12684.microstran.aspx
You are right. I need my eyes testing!! Please ignore.
Hi Stuart, thanks for the input and questions. We were hoping to have the ISM interop ready in this upcoming release in June, but ended up needing to defer to a little later in the year. So yes, the enhancements for the June release are limited to licensing and installation.
The ISM export feature should be quite useful for users of both Microstran and Revit (and of course for users of AECOsim, ProStructures, and Microstation as well). Once the feature is complete, you'll just need to install the Revit to ISM plugin and then can transfer the models you build in Microstran over to Revit. We're working on creating some demonstrations of things you can do with Microstran models through ISM.
In the meantime, feel free to contact me at Josh.Taylor@bentley.com if you'd like to suggest specific productivity improvements.
