Revolved Component

What's the suggested technique for creating a revolved component?

  • Hi Andrew,

This can be easily  done via MicroStation Solids Modelling.
Please follow the below steps to achieve this -

    1) In the Modelling workflow, you first need to create a hollow cylinder using the 'Extrude Along' command.
    2) Then, create a solid sphere & apply the 'Shell' command to create a hollow section.
    3) After this, you can use the 'Cut' command in the Modelling > Solids > Features section to cut the hollow sphere into half.
    4) Lastly, you can move & place the sphere coincidentally above the cylinder and use the 'Union' Boolean tool to convert these into a single body.

I hope this will answer your query to the best.

Please let us know, if we can assist you further or is it something else that you are looking for.

  • I'm using Autodesk AutoCAD 2016
ProStructures V8i (Select series 6 R2 for AutoCAD)

I can create AutoCAD native solids.
Can these be incorporated into the ProSteel database?

  • if you model this shape with Prosteel Primatives you could add it to the database and drawings. To create the shape just draw a closed polyline matching half the cross section then 'rotate' it using the Prosteel solid editing tools.

If you only want it in the database then you could use autocad 3d solids and turn it into a Prosteel 'solid reference'

prostructures > additions > solid reference
