ProStructures vs OpenBuildings

I'm not really after a comparison, I understand the differences, but my frustration with OBD is reaching it's limit.

I'm curious to see who has switched from OBD to PS and how have they found it for day to day modelling and drawing production.

All feedback welcome.

  • Hi Bear,

Thanks for raising this query through Bentley Community Forum.

ProStructures is mainly the application for modeling and then detailing of modeled structure. ProStructures can do modeling very easily and then drawing production is also very smooth in ProStructures. Also with the change in 3D model, drawings are also getting updated automatically. As far as OBD, that is not meant for detailing. For detailing of structures one needs to detail that model in ProStructures only.

I believe I have explained well. Please let us know if you need more clarification.

  • I'm familiar with the different packages Sandip. My biggest concern is that there are some modelling differences between the packages. I'm hoping they have evolved since I last used PS. The ability to work with the detailer better is a plus for me, though we don't want to do the shop detailing ourselves. The ability to better place objects like base plates and basic connections would also be an advantage.

Biggest concern  have is producing engineering drawings to industry standard. Single line and widget and control over drawings view production like we have in OBD.

Not interested in live drawing views. Not needed. I am interested in a neater interface than DV though.

Would love to get some USER feedback as well. Not asking people to give up IP, just what there experience is.
