There are various methods to place a gusset plate.
Either it can be done full automatic like in the dynamic bracing command, or half automatic with already set bracing rods like in the gusset plate command, or manual with a plate derived from a polygon with the exact placement and form you just need if the others don´t work.
Maybe a screenshot or a Modell would be good to have with the situation you are just in.

Hi Alfred,
In ABD, gusset plates are a part of the Steel Truss tool.
There is also a Base Plate option in the Structural Place User Defined tool that could be used as a basic standalone rectangular steel plate.
