Best Practices for Modeling in Revit for Export to RAM Structural System

When modeling your building in Revit Structure, you will need to follow a few best practices to ensure a successful export to RAM Structural System.

    Levels

Be sure to set the Base Level (The base level is any level at the bottom of the column. It does not have to be named Base as shown here.) and Top Level appropriately for columns and the Base Constraint and Top Constraint for walls as shown below:

Set Wall Base and Top Level to correct reference levels

Set the level for floors to the closest story level. Don’t offset the floor from a different story level because that will be the level the floor is imported into RAM Structural System.

    Foundations

Foundations imported and exported from Revit with ISM are changed to Revit Structural Slabs. If you want to want to schedule the foundations in Revit it is recommended that you do not use the foundations created with ISM.

    Analyze As

Revit Structure provides this property for beams, columns, and braces.  Braces will always be exported to RAM Structural System as lateral members.  To export beams and columns as Lateral members, be sure to set the Analyze As flag accordingly:

Beam with “Analyze As” flag set to Lateral
