Bentley does not support its software running on Microsoft operating systems versions that Microsoft has "retired”. Microsoft has already deprecated support for Windows XP and “retire” it in 2014. Software Prerequisites
The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications v08.11.09 are automatically downloaded and installed to your workstation while you install ProStructures V8i (SELECTseries 8 update 2). The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications needs to be installed on your system once, and only needs to be reinstalled if you are installing a later version of ProStructures V8i that requires an updated prerequisite pack. The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications is also available from the Software Downloads of SELECTservices Online. The contents of the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications include:
Windows Installer Version 3.1v2 Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 6 SP 1 (32-bit and 64-bit) Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications core Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications localized DHTML Editing Control for Applications (with Vista compatibility) DirectX 9.0c DirectX 9.0 is installed only if needed and only if you are using Windows XP. Windows Vista includes DirectX 10; Windows 7 includes DirectX 11. If your operating system is Windows Vista with a graphics card with GPU feature level 10 or later, then ProStructures V8i will use DirectX 10. If your operating system is Windows 7 with a graphics card with GPU feature level 11, then ProStructures V8i will use DirectX 11. Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0 or later with 128-bit cipher strength is also required. It is not part of the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications.
ProStructures V8i (SELECTseries 8 update 2) is compatible with Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Office 2010, or Microsoft Office 2013. Microsoft Office is required to support certain export and reporting capabilities. It is NOT part of the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications. Copyrights in all components are owned by Microsoft Corporation or one of its affiliates, subsidiaries, or licensors.
* Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 are supplied with .NET Framework 4.5, whereas ProStructures V8i requires .NET Framework 3.5. Hence, if you are installing ProStructures V8i on Windows 8, you need to enable the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel. For details, refer to the Enabling the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel and Troubleshooting sections in Installing the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 or 8.1
** ProStructures V8i provides support for Microsoft Window 7 User Access Control (UAC). However, If ProStructures V8i needs to coexist on a Microsoft Window 7 Operating System with any previous versions of the building applications it may require the Windows User Access Control (UAC) setting to be set to “Never notify”. Not all previous releases of building applications were certified against Windows 7, therefore they may not support User Account Controls. Please be aware that this is the least secure setting and you open your computer to potential security risks. Please consult the Microsoft Windows 7 documentation for more information concerning User Access Control or refer to Adjust User Account Control settings in Windows 7
The minimum recommended workstation profile for running ProStructures V8i (SELECTseries 8):
Processor
Intel® or AMD® processor 2.0 GHz or greater. We do not support ProStructures V8i (SELECTseries 8) on a CPU that does not support SSE2.
Memory
2 GB available RAM minimum, 4 GB (32-bit OS) or 8 GB (64-bit OS) available RAM is recommended. More memory almost always improves performance, particularly when working with larger models.
Hard Disk
3.5 GB free disk space (which includes the 2 GB install footprint for a complete installation)
Video
Graphics card supported by DirectX 9.0c. See the graphics card manufacturer for latest information on DirectX drivers. 256 MB of video RAM or higher is recommended. If insufficient video RAM or no graphics card supported by DirectX can be found, ProStructures V8i attempts to use software emulation. For optimal performance, graphics display color depth should be set to 24-bit or higher. When using a color depth setting of 16-bit, some inconsistencies will be noted.
