In this document we are going to learn how to set up different line style, line color and line weight for different steel elements.
To explain this one needs to manage the 3D model while modeling itself. Following sections will guide step by step to achieve this. A) Classify all elements into their respective classes such as Area Class, Display Class, Part families, and Description. B) Assign a Detail Style to View. C) Assign different Color, Line Style and Line Weight for different steel elements.A) Classify all elements into their respective classes such as Area Class, Display Class, Part families, and Description.1. Whenever inserting any shape or structural elements, you need to assign each element into their respective classes such as Display Class, Area Class, Part Families and Description. This will help you in the 2D Detail Center afterwards. See below figures.B) Assign a Detail Style to View.1.After creating model with each element classified, go to 2D Detail Center > Parts > Standard, Now copy the standard style and rename it for e.g. Anchor Plan, Floor Plan, Elevation etc. for Views. Now, drag any view from 2D Detail Center > Parts > Model > View and drop into the newly created style (copied one).C) Assign different Color, Line Style and Line Weight for different steel elements.1. Now, go to Views > Detail Views > View and preview the view which was dragged previously. After preview go to Edit Style.2. Go to Detail Style > 2D Display > Views > Object Display, right click in open area and Add a display group. Name the group for which you want to assign a different Color, Line Style, Line Weight. For e.g. Gusset, Bracing, Purlins etc. 3. After that, right click and Add Parts into that display group. You can use Display Class option or Description option in which the element is classified. In this case Gusset is used see below figure. In the same way you need to create Display Group for each element and Add parts according to its classification.4. Now, go to 2D Display > Common > Line Display > Line Styles. Here you can use different Line Style, Line Weight and Color for each element according to your requirement. See below figure.
In the same way create different attributes for each element as shown in above figure.5. Now, again go to Object Display and do the following steps as shown in below figure. In this case, Gusset is used. From here you need to set the required line style, which you have created in the Line Styles option.
In this way you can control display of lines for every element in 2D drawing.
