Error writing file problem

Greetings from Croatia :D

I have a problem with saving geometry file after a certain action I did.

Let's start from beginning:

I have a geometry file which contains a several horizontal/vertical alignment a turnout and COGO points. When I delete multiple COGO points with a "Delete COGO point" tool I can't save geometry file becuase an error messaga pops up "Error writing to file" and whne exiting PRT says that it is failed to open some file in program directory on C drive. I have checked, file is there, and I didn't changed it or moved it. And this is not happening when I make some other change in geometry file.

More details in attached pdf file.

Did someone had similar problem or knows how to solve this?

It would be a great help if someone could try to do this with my geometry file to see if there is a problem with .alg or something else is on the way.

Thank you!

Hrvoje

  • Hi Hrvoje,
I deleted COGO point form ALG with no problem.

Try to check setting : File > Project Default -> Drainage Structures (*.dat). Is there any info in field ?

    My comment:
If you are not administrator, you do not have acces to file m_structures.dat - as is message in PDF. Try to repeat operation with administrator right attached to your Windows account.
    ...or:
Try to clear field "File > Project Default -> Drainage Structures (*.dat)" and repeat...
    ...or:
copy file "m_structures.dat" from \Program Files (x86)\Benley\PowerRailTrack V8i 08.xx.xx.xxx\PowerRailtrack\.... location to another location, where you have full Read/Write access, change setting pointed to new location of file in "Drainage Structures (*.dat)" field and repeat.

    Robert.
  • But did you managed to save it?

I checked all of this... I don't have any path defined for drainage structures and I am an administrator. I tried all solutions you suggested and didn't worked.
As I already wrote, if I make any other change in this geometry file I can save it without any problem. Problem begins when I want to save .alg after deleting COGO points. That is what is strange in this situation...

    Robert thank you for replying...

  • Hi Hrvoje,

yes I save it  - no problem...

If you can, send me screeshot from your  File > Project Default    ....

next: try use another m_structures.dat - may be original file is damaged.

...or: try to create new ALG file and copy alignent from original ALG file - may be there is something in the file....

    Robert.

  • Actions that didn't helped:
    - using another m_structures.dat file although I didn't used it at all
    - copying/creating new alignment or even completely different alignment
    - evan gave geometry file to a colleague who uses same PRT version (08.11.07.536) and don't even work on his computer but works with his other geometry files...

    I just don't get it...

  • Hrvoje, try this:
Set the UAC (User Account Control) in the system settings (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts) to never notify. Then make sure that the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PowerRailTrack V8i\PowerRailTrack\InRoadsGroup\data\metric\ is not write protected. Log out and log in again. Start PRT
