How to Create Track Drainage Profile in Power Rail Track?

Hello Every One,

Am working in Track Drainage Department. i have few doubts related to track drainage in bentley.

  • how to create Drainage Profile in Yard Portions and How can i bring that bridge models in to this Power Rail Track.
  • Is it possible to Design Whole Track Drainage System in Bentley.
  • The simple answer to your question is yes. You can place drainage design elements in plan using the Bentley Storm and Sanitary and then either project these elements to an existing track design profile, or create a draiange design profile along the length of the pipes and pits. This is good for presentation for drainage information, but I still do my design and checking on a MS excel spreadsheet to make sure everything is correct. It is possible to design a drainage layout in the software, but I have not got it to work successfully as the software is more for roads design than for rail design.

See the attached image showing the drainage tab and the drainage tools available in BRT/PRT.
See also the attached Bentley PDF showing how to place drainage elements. It is for InRoads - but the principle is the same.

You could also look at Bentley Subsurface Utility modelling, but I have not used it so cant speak to its usefulness.

  • As Alastair answered, Rail Track SS2 includes Storm and Sanitary to allow drainage design and analysis. You can customize features and layout your network, get it on profile and cross section. Rail Track SS4 brings new Subsurface Utilities Design and Analysis. New technology but actually less capabilities in term of profile drawings and annotations. At some point you have to export your network to the legacy package (Storm and Sanitary). But SUDA gives nice features to design and analyze the network. You can even extend capabilities using StormCAD or Civilstorm more advancedproducts for water.
What do you mean by "bring that bridge models" in Power Rail Track". Rail Track is based on MicroStation which is one of the most interoperable CAD platform. You can reference many different file format including ifc, obj.

  • There is a Bridge Module besides of Drainage Module in Power Rail Track.  I still use SS2.  I can not any of bridge tutorial or just an example.

  • You can find sample data here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\PowerRailTrack V8i\PowerRailTrack\InRoadsGroup\Sample Data\Bridge
I never used this part of the product so can't help on it.
If you are interested in Bridge Design we have OpenBridge Modeler, the latest Bentley Bridge modeling tool connected to bridge analysis product (RM Bridge).

  • Thanks to you, brother. Seven years using PRT, never know there is an example in that folder.
