OpenRail - Degree of Curvature - Arc/Chord

I am using the default training workspace and cannot figure out how to store geometry with Chord definition for curves.  Is there a way to change an existing alignment from arc to chord definition?

  • I was able to store geometry with chord definition for curves.  I believe what enabled me to do that was going to Design File Settings>Civil Formatting>Radius Settings>Degree of Curve Method>Chord.  Still having issues with annotations showing up with the arc definition but believe that has something to do with the feature definition.  Still have not figured out how to change an alignment from arc to chord definition.

  • Some images...

  • I should have been more specific when I mentioned annotations.  In particular, I am trying to display the stationing along the alignment using the chord definition for curves.  The stationing is currently being displayed using the arc definition of curves and I have not been able to located where to change this setting.

  • Sorry for the delay in answering. Do you mean you want  the stationing to be measured and annotated along the chord and not the geometry ? Sorry I am not used to use chord definition so I don't know exactly what users are expecting. I always found the stationing as the cumulative distance along the horizontal geometry so don't understand what is different between chord and arc definitions.

  • We need to show the chord definition stationing on chord defined alignments.  For example, if you look at the geometry report for a chord defined alignment, you will see stationing for the PC, and PT.  I need the stationing in the plan view to match the stationing on that report.  What appears to be happening in my case is that the when I display the stationing in the plan view, it is displaying the arc definition stationing which is not the same as the chord definition stationing.  In past versions of the rail design software, the annotations were automatically shown based on how the geometry was stored and matched the reports.

  • ok. I passed to a colleague who is using chord definition and he kindly created a video. I just had an issue on considering measuring stationing along the chord. I apologize. It is just like driving on the left ;-)

So my colleague has tested and has created an enhancement request to be able to annotate stationing using chord definition. When using stationing to place a template or other things it looks to work well. So the issue is with annotation.
