ORLD Turnout Annotation

I have been working in the Metric Example workspace and have come across a method of annotating turnouts used in the examples delivered with the product.

The attached image below shows a text favourite that is used to annotate turnouts in plan. My question is, how is this text favourite defined? Unlike other text favourites, I cannot click on the shaded fields and interrogate where they come from. The fields look like name, description, ratio, intersection point chainage and toe chainage. However I have no way of knowing.

Is this something to do with item types?

Ideally I would like to create individual text favourites for each of these turnout properties, and then use them within the turnout annotation definitions to put the text where I want it to be in the Turnout.

I am willing to put the work in here to make this operate correctly for our turnouts, however I am reminded of the Network Rail Extension Add In for BRT/PRT and annotation was much simpler for turnouts using this method.

  • Default ones in the program are just examples to show what you can build. You can build your own ones using element properties, example ones are also created with the same method. You can both annotate turnout element properties and also point properties. As long as a property is exposed in element information you can use it for annotation. Below I am attaching a video showing this.

  • Thank you very much for this

This clarifies something that I did not know. That Turnouts are Elements and not Geometry in the context of Civil Tools and the available variables for the Text Favourites. I will look into the text favourites and see what I can do!

  • Good point . You opened my eyes. I always looked into OpenRoads Plan Annotation to find properties to use in annotation group. And there we can't find turnout. But so obvious to click the element to get properties then save favorite as usual.
