When I try to create a new terrain using the Topo Import Tool>USGS Terrain, I don't get anything.
- I have a coordinate system selected (and tried a 2D and 3D model)
- I create a shape and set a Feature Definition
- I selected the shape and then there is a quick progress bar, but then it disappears and switches the tool back to the Selection tool and there is no terrain created and the shape properties didn't change.
- The Message Center gives me this "Topo Import functionality is part of Technology Preview"
Is this tool not ready to be used? The release information said it would be in software.
Also, I'm currently asking within our company about an Esri password so I haven't been able to try that yet.
I did a test on a sample area in California and it did work well.
Data i snot available everywhere. Could it be a reason ?
jpln,
I don't believe so. I checked the USGS website and there is plenty of GIS data in the area.
I was testing an area just north of Charleston, SC. It was a mile long, 100' wide corridor measuring 1000566.59 SF (about 22.97 acres).
It looks to work well for me. I even tested connected and disconnected (Connection Client).
Turns out our company did not have the required websites added to the "white list." After working with IT to get them added, the tool worked as expected. Thank you jpln for working through this with me.
In summary, if anyone else has this issue the required websites needed to be added to your companies "white list" are:

Hi Nelson,
I'm facing similar issue in OpenRoads designer while trying to import terrain from ESRI.So I have a small question, Is this "White list" related to Bentley Stuff or something else? Could you please enlighten me on this?
Thank you.
