Hi,
I want to import existing rails from a suvey (cad) file to open rail but cannot find answer to it. there are videos about importing rail from CSV /ASCII file . But i dont have ASCII/CSV files.

I’m having similar issues. I am trying to follow how I worked in v8i BRT but its not really the same. I also have rail strings what I’d like to create a CL from, regress the CL, then create Rails from CL. My workflow I’m trying is: Array a point up each rail string, 1m distance, so spoof the survey points its asking for, [Success] Run the Sort Horizontal Points command on these points, 1 rail at a time, to recreate a rail string, [Success] Create CL from Rails, [No Success and my workflow is stalled here] Regress CL with Curve Diagrams Run Rails From CL I’m hoping this is enough work to b able to set out signals for the Signalling tool with ORD. Anyhow know why my workflow stalls on step 3? My rails are 16km long. Ive chopped them to 8km and it doesn’t work, then 4 km and still the ‘CL From Rails’ command doesn’t work. Simply hangs. The rails seems to have created correctly as I have profiles of each. I haven’t carried out Regression on the rails yet as I wan to do that to the CL once created, assume thats the correct order?
In OpenRail you don't have to import the rails as you must do in Rail Track. You can create the regression line directly from the rails linestrings.
There is an issue with management of points when creating the centerline from rails:
communities.bentley.com/.../video-horizontal-regression-workflow
the video shows the use of CSV file to import rail. I don't have any CSV file. I suppose there is not regular (BRT) method of importing rail using graphics. we got to have the csv file to bring in rail surveyed.
yes, about 45 seconds in, the user is using 'Rail/Create Regression Line' and in that command, although this user doesnt use it, is the option 'Regression Line From Rails' so that should do the old 'import from graphics' workflow.im also in the middle of trying to work this out as i use survey strings to create a string, then CL, then work from the CL with the HA/VA/Cant within it in BRT via an ALG.ive got as far regressing rail line strings, ive now managed a CL from Rails, which my ORD Release 2 failed to achieve and now my upgraded ORD Release 3 did achieve, for 16kms for Rail to a CL. It took 45 minutes per Left and right Rail, as i have a 2 track railway, that was 90 minutes of processing.ive now got to understand what the CL is, do i need to apply Vertical/Cant to it, how to do that, then how i use that for Signal Sighting to create my tracks, sleepers and signal positions, then the visuals to provide the background.
How many points do you have on each rail (the original 3d linestring) ?
the count under Geometry in the information panel is 17564
So more than 1 point / meter
It is probably too much for actual regression workflow for acceptable performances. 45' for left+right rail is not what I name acceptable performances
We must definitively improve OpenRail performances there, but is 1m interval something required for engineering? We used to have 5 or 10m. in the past.We may include a tool to filter points on linestrings
