Just doing some earthwork modelling in OpenRail and was wondering if there was a way to show components stagged within a template drop?
For context i'm trying to model soil nails at 1m spacings into a cutting and i'm trying to model the nails

RE: Corridor Modelling - Is there a way to show staggered components?

Glad to help. Either method will work, but your template drop interval may need to be very small. Ask yourself if you need this LOD and is it worth the effort/processing time/setup time?

RE: Corridor Modelling - Is there a way to show staggered components?

Very interesting methods, I will definitely have to try both and keep you posted if they work.

Thank you!

RE: Corridor Modelling - Is there a way to show staggered components?

You can model soil nails by a few methods.:

1.) Use a switch (parametric constraint) to turn on or soil nails at desired locations (this could result in a boat load of parametric constraints).

2.) Utilize the 'Horizontal Feature Constraint' within the Point Properties to find a Soil Nail Limit feature in a reference file that you create. When the Soil Nail Limit feature is found a display rule turns on the soil nail. If the Soil Nail Limit feature is not found then there is no soil nail. Caveat to this method is you’ll need a soil nail feature for each soil nail so use the MicroStation copy and instead of using 1 copy use an appropriate number.

I am sure there are other methods to achieve a solution to your problem, these are just two off the top of my head.

Good luck!

I figured as much but I thought I'd ask on the off chance there was some magic button that could be pressed, as being able to model elements that could be automatically offset would be very helpful!

I'll still try what you have suggested and post an update if I manage to get anywhere.

RE: Corridor Modelling - Is there a way to show staggered components?

There is no way to create individual elements with the templates. Templates are creating extruded components. What you can do is create some features using the template or using an H+V offset from centerline or other line and place cells along the path (cell array) at defined interval. What can be more tricky is the orientation of the nails.
