Many clients and rail opperators utilise ALG's to create mainenance Alignments. It is impossible for myself as a designer to miove across to OpenRial while i cannot provide this contractually required (will be for years) documentation to the client. Can it be confirmed if there is a method to output this courrently or planned ion the future releases as this is the laste item preventing a complete transsition to OpenRail Designer.
Unfortunately, even there is an enhancement request for this I don't see anything started yet.
I would also check with clients and rail operators any plan to move to OpenRail data.Versions that using ALG will not be supported anymore, so even ALG based versions will probably be used for a while, and you can also continue to use for this purpose, it is good to look on how to use current data: DGN, XML, IFC. It is what will stay for years. If it is something that is not suitable, then we must make it suitable so put dev resources on it.
Unfortunantly The local client utilises LAGs to create their maintance alignments and have quite extenssive systems in place to utilise the format. ITs very rare for a upgraded platform to come out without some backward compatibility and the insistance on not including what i imagine isnt a very difficult tool to develop is the single issue we currently have as a consultant in being able to migrate to the new software.
It is rarely easy as it could appear. Dealing only with H+V+Cant alignments could simplify the process. So if only this information is required then we can refine the enhancement request to add this limitation.
When it comes to turnouts there are many dependencies so more complex to deal with: more time, more risks to not provide what is required.A clear understanding of what is being used in the ALG could help qualify/prioritize the development.
You could always export to an intermediate exchange format like LandXML from ORD and then create an ALG from it in a previous version of PowerRail Track. Although that would require the two applications on your computer and an extra step on your part, you could benefit from the newer design interface and tools in ORD.
Unfortunatelly the export of the turnouts its not possible as I remember.
