Vertical regression points incomplete

Hello,

I have an issue when doing vertical regression. Whenever I create a vertical regression line I most often miss out on vertical regression points in the profile window. The results alter from time to time but most of the time some are missing and I'm not sure what setting affects this.

The workflow I have been using for the example below is as follows: imported points from reference, created a regression line, created lines/arcs with single horizontal regression, created a complex element from all elements, complex spiral between to connect lines and circulars with spirals. At this point I'm trying to create a profile with vertical regression points using the complex geometry and the previously created regression line. This results in most of the vertical regression points not being displayed in the profile window. Please see the screen capture below:

I want to know why this happens and what I can do to get all vertical regression points in the profile.

I am using the terrain and points from the example/training. The version is OpenRail Designer 2021 R2.

Sincerely

John A.

  • Hello,

I am still investigating this issue that is happening quite often.

    At least 2 reasons found:

    1. horizontal slew value not updated: calculate slew value often fixes the issue.
    2. sinous track alignment where you can drop a perpendicular to more than one location from points to the alignment
A workaround is to create 2 (or more) regression lines along the alignment to avoid such situation
      It is logged as defect

If you have issue that is not matching with the above, please send me the file so that we have more material to investigate.

  • Hello,
similar problem here, but no help from   solution suggestions.
So I am making horizontal and vertical regression geometries for existing railway using OpenRail version 2022 R3. Workflow is following: Import points (measured centerline points) -> Create Regression Line From Points -> Horizontal Curvature Diagram -> Single Horizontal Regression.
The problem with the 22R3 -version is that horizontal regression -tool loses some of the imported points.
Below is an example: points on arc (yellow rectangle) will disappear when I use the regression tool.
With 20R3 everything goes pretty smoothly, but with newer 22R3-version there are problems even though the workflow is exactly the same I use in 20R3. There are similar problems of points gone missing when using vertical regression -tool also. The geometry is very simple, two lines and a spiral arc between those line.
Hopefully someone can help me with this! It's frustrating to use older version of OpenRail because of this.

  • All parameters are the same to display curvature diagram? Could it be removing outliers?

Do the points exists in the plan view?

  • Hi, eventually your earlier suggestion of calculating slew values fixed the problem! Thanks.
