Hi,
When creating IFC files I have a some issue. I'm creating corridor using corridor modeling and then I use a tool "Place Node" to add some surrounding infrastructure. Before using tool "export to IFC" I'm changing all designed Nodes with tool "mesh from element" to mesh elements (only mesh elements could be exported to IFC file). Unfortunately many of them doesn't show in IFC file. For example I'll put screen with added node in ORD, displays correctly , and below screen from BIMVision, where only some elements of this node exported to IFC file. Maybye someone has experience with this kind of troubles while creating IFC files.
Unfortunately today OpenRail IFC exporter only exports corridor meshes and rails and sleepers.
So you must look at alternatives to export IFC. Main are iTwin (Ad-Hoc review as the easiest if you have access Home | iTwin Design Review (bentley.com)) and OpenBuilding. The issue with OpenBuilding is that you must use catalog from OpenBuilding and not Item Types you may have already used and configured in OpenRail.
Hi Sebastian,
The ORD IFC exporter has issues with non-corridor Meshes with Voids. Try using the Close Mesh Voids tool and see if that helps.

Solution:Open Revit.Open the model.Go to the File menu > Export > options > IFC options.Look at the name in the title of the IFC Export classes dialog (screenshot below).Find the file in use on your system and delete it before the next step.In the IFC Export classes dialog, click Standard.Export IFC file.

Hi Mark,
I've checked model and there wasn't any Voids in meshes. I've tried also to do closed meshes and this tool helped me a little (more parts of items displayed on IFC) but not all elements still doesn't display and I want to avoid work with design file before exporting it to IFC, when I have to change hundreds of items one by one. Unfortunately Tool "closed mesh" couldn't be use for a spread group of elements.
Hi Will,
Thanks for solution, but I have few questions, doubts :
1) Is Your solution based on a Autodesk product "Revit" or is just a coincidence of names ?
2) If answer for the first question is "yes", do You know any other method which is based on OpenRail or maybe Bentley products ?
3) I have doubts about doing this in Revit, because rail design is specific. It has a kilometers long corridor and as I know Revit has a limits in design space which can be exported to 3d. Maybe something has changed but I remember issues like this reported by my colleagues from bridge team.
4) I don't see any "screenshot below". Maybe something wasn't attached properly.
