  • hello,

The question is too wide. MX/MXRail can do so many things as Inroads/BRT do. To use MXRail at its stretch, you need to fully understand the string modelling concept (just like BRT with Surface>Design Surface). Most of MX tools and wizards are designed to create strings (features for BRT). Few of them are creating Cross Section but you can't manipulate cross section as you can in Roadway Designer except some limited actions using the cross section editor.

One MX strength is its line mode also known as command language. This is very powerful and is nothing to do with programing. No intelligence except the one of the user, It is just a list of commands with their parameters. It is then possible for users to script some tasks of any type (design, drawing, report, etc). Not always easy to fine tune scripts (input files) but it can be very efficient for repetitive tasks. Another big advantage is that using input files, you can go back in your design 15 years after and understand how and why (using comments in the input files) you did it.

MX has more capabilities in getting information from the drawing and strings like distance, slope from existing strings to designed string. And you get this information in a dynamic/graphical way, easy to annotate or get it in a text file.

MXRail gives MX basics + additional wizard dedicated to rail design.

Some are doing rail design without using MXRail, just MX. It depends on what you intend to design (rails, platform, turnouts, etc).

    Best Regards
