New Release STAAD.Pro V8i SS6 (20.07.11.70)

I am very happy to announce a new release of STAAD.Pro V8i SS6 that further enhances the release posted in December (details of that release can be found here).

The principal developments that are included in this release include

  1. Updated RAM Connection Module

  2. Enhanced ISM interoperability

  3. Addition of ‘Add Member’ templates

  4. Enhanced Connection Tag capabilities

  5. Addition of accidental torsion for the Canadian response spectrum definitions.

  6. Significant rework of the Russian steel design codes

  7. General updates and corrections as described in the Revision History documentation.

 

Updated RAM Connection Module

The very popular steel connection application RAM Connection has been updated in recent times such that it now includes supports designs to include the following design codes: -

  1. AISC 360-10 (LRFD and ASD methods)

  2. Eurocode EN 1993-1-8

  3. GB 50017-2003

These supplement the previously supported design codes of AISC 360-05 and BS5950.

Note that the RAM Connection Mode requires use of a RAM Connection license for access to available basic, smart and gusset connection types. A limited set of basic connections can be used without using a RAM Connection license. Refer to the online help for more details.

Also, note that no specific STAAD design code license is needed to use the different design codes in the RAM Connection module.

 

Enhanced ISM interoperability

The importance of interoperability in the current design office is recognised as vital to improving the success of engineering practices. The growing adoption of ISM has thus been seen as a major benefit to improving the design workflow.

Managing project documents and models is also key to ensuring optimum performance and thus with this release of STAAD.Pro, the interop with ISM has been enhanced with ProjectWise integration. This means that the ISM repository can be hosted directly in a managed ProjectWise datasource which will now be used as the first lookup location when referencing the ISM data.

Additionally, as ISM repositories are being used to host larger models, the STAAD.Pro interop has been updated to support the ISM Sub-Structure construct so that a STAAD.Pro model can be referenced from a larger ISM repository which includes multiple substructures.

 

Addition of ‘Add Member’ templates

When models are created in the GUI, there is a degree of repetition that can now be avoided with the use of an enhancement on the menu option ‘Geometry>Add Beam>Add Member Attribute…’. Now a set of standard attributes can be saved away as a template and recalled so that as you create a new member, various attributes can be simultaneously assigned, thus reducing the time needed to create your models.

 

Enhanced Connection Tag capabilities

RAM Connection is a great tool to obtain a detail design on a specific steel connection. As described above, adding the latest version of the much loved program is a great benefit for detail checking of any specific connection. There is however a simple tool that allows the ends of beams to be furnished with a ‘connection tag’. These are provided so that the engineer can provide a standard connection which will be included in the ISM repository and thus available for the detailing and/or fabrication teams to know exactly what connection to use.

Whilst these tags are intended for passing to the detailing team, we have provided some rudimentary checks that can be performed on the connection to see that they meet some capacity checks. The enhancement provided is that the checks are now exposed in the XML file where the capacities are to be specified, allowing you to determine exactly what checks you want to have performed: -

Additionally, there is an Overall Check now included in the report so that it is possible to see where a member has had both Moment and Shear checks, the governing criteria is displayed.

 

Canadian Seismic updates.

The equivalent static seismic routine to the Canadian NRC 2005 code can now include the effect of accidental torsion in models that define rigid floor diaphragms. Additionally, the effect of accidental torsion can be included in a new NRC 2005 response spectrum option.

 

Significant rework of the Russian steel design codes

Major reworking of the Russian steel design codes SNiP and SP16 have been undertaken to better account for the strength and slenderness checks. This is designed to better help identify the governing strength criteria which was previously being masked by the slenderness checks. A significant number of other modifications have also been implemented providing a more rigorous solution and strongly recommended for anyone using a Russian steel design.
