New Release STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition – V22 Update 8

A new update to the CONNECT Edition of the popular STAAD.Pro analysis and design application has been published and is now available. As part of our commitment to you to deliver new builds more frequently, we are making available this build which addresses a number of issues that have been reported and thus highly recommended that you adopt this new build.

    Please doubel check the section class identification in the new Canadian steel design code CSA S16-19,

    The previous version S16-14 and S16-09 had it correct but the current version is wrong. See the clip below a UB254x31 beam web is incorrectly identified as Class 3 section in S16-14 and once the section class is wrong all the member check following that is incorrect.

    Generally, the update to S16-19 has cleared many errors and the output presentation is also much better now, but to see such a simple error missed is disapointing?

  • It is good to hear that you appreciate the improvements made in the steel design. We have investigated the situation which you have raised regarding the classification change. It has been confirmed that this is correct according to the 2019 edition of the code. This is a result of a change that was introduced into table 2 which defines the classification limits. A number of additional rows have been added which includes 'Element supported along two edges and subjected to compression under combined flexure about the major axis and an axial force such as webs of I sections'. With the new clause, the classification of the web changes from class 1 to class 3. I trust that clarifies the situation.
