The topics in this session include, the column-beam joint check and the shear check that are performed in STAAD Advanced Concrete Design for ductile columns and special moment frame columns.
The design of beam-column joints is an important part of earthquake resistant design for reinforced concrete moment-resisting frames. Due to the difficulty of repairing and retrofitting damaged beam-column joints in buildings after a seismic attack, recent building codes for reinforced concrete buildings, provides allowable joint shear stress to preclude premature failure of beam-column joints before a beam sway mechanism has developed.
