Designing a Warehouse with intermediate wind girts around the perimeter, and intermediate wind columns. Do these wind girts have to be created on its own level, do they need to be considered as part of a frame system? I guess whats the best way to model secondary lateral wind members in RAM
Yes, you will need a story in order to define the girts. That's basically true for any plane where beams or horizontal braces are to be modeled.
There is no way in RAM SS now to load the girts directly with a uniform horizontal force, however. So, if you make them lateral, the best you can do is apply the wind reactions of those girts onto the columns as nodal loads.
That's one of the reasons we tend to recommend Ram Elements or STAAD pro for these types of structures. Pitched roofs with a kinked beam at the apex is another reason.
So can you apply a horizontal/lateral nodal load in modeler? Or where does this allow you to put in a horizontal load?
Right, lateral nodal loads are applied in the Modeler, in the Elevation view only. Nodal loads are distinct from program generated story forces, but they can be merged into a single load case (if they have the same type) in RAM Frame - Loads menu.
