STAAD.Pro deflection interpretation in member query box

Hi,

I am using STAAD.Pro v8i (select series 5). I would like to know more about how to interpret the "Deflection" tab in the member query dialog box (the box that comes out when you double click on a member using the member select tool). Specifically, I would like to know:

  • How does the result in the dialog box corresponds to the result in in "post processing" - "node" - "Displacement" - "All Relative Displacement" and "Max Relative Displacements"?
  • How is the "global deflection" and "local deflection" calculated? How does it correlates to each other? If load cases and distance along member is the same, the deflection should be the same magnitude, shouldn't it?
  • How does the "All Relative Displacement" and "Max Relative Displacement" corresponds? See below screenshot, the dist and load case is the same for the member query dialog box and the post processing screen but the values are different, i.e. 0.043" vs 0.065".

If there is a manual/guide on how to interpret these deflection/displacement result, please let me know. Thanks!
