I am doing the steel pipe pile and concrete pile cap design (Breasting Dolphin of Oil Jetty). How can I know slab design is safe or not (how to check it is less than allowable stress)?I think from my analysis results from staad pro1. I need to show deflections of steel pile at nodes are less than allowable deflections. In British code for marine structure, for vertical deflection= L/400 and for horizontal deflection= H/300 with a max of 100mm.So, for my structure H=L=pile length from tip to support? or i can only check horizontal if i assume it as column? There is a deflection check parameter called dff in steel design. But I don't know how to use it properly.
2. I also need to check RC slab(pile cap) allowable stress to show actual max stress got from analysis is less than it? Do I need to do any further if it is showing "only minimum steel is require"? Which results I mainly need to mention in Report to show my whole pile and pile cap design is safe? concrete take off don't show steel reinforcement and how can I see reinforcement detail of concrete slab? Could you please check how I apply the loading, plate meshing and analysis results? It will be a great honor and pleasure for me if you will check my model. Thanks in anticipation.
For concrete design,at least 3 things to consider to check:
1. Actual concrete stress (using top& bot plate bending M from Staad): to determnide top& bottom bar sizes. Keep local plate z- axis consistent orientation. This will help you to find top and botom Mx My easier.
2. Two way shear
3.One-way shear
4. Diff deflection
