What is the objective of using physical members in STAAD.Pro ?

I want to know the difference between an analytical member and a physical member in STAAD.Pro. If i need to design my steel structure according to AS4100 code, do i have to create physical members for the existing analytical members ?

  • The physical members are collection of one or more analytical members as a single member. This represents the real or physical beam as a whole. You can know more about the physical members from section 1B.12 of the "International Design Codes" manual available from the online help. However, it is not mandatory to create a design physical members. The old method of code checking analytical members is still intact. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
