I'm modeling a 3 stringer short span timber bridge in staad. The model consists of the three beams and deck planks (which are modeled as Plates). All geometry, material properties, supporting, and loading have been assigned. There is only one error in the Output File, regarding the Materials. Seeing as how the materials are taken from the staad database, I don't see how this is occuring? Please review output file and provide advice. Thank you!
Hello,
In the STAAD Editor, move lines TYPE TIMBER.
Now the model is running fine.
You can find more information in 5.26.1 Define Material of STAAD Technical Reference manual.
DEFINE MATERIAL
then
ISOTROPIC name
E f1
G f3
POISSON f6
DENSITY f7
ALPHA f8
DAMPING f10
END MATERIAL (DEFINITION)

Xingmin,
Do you realize that when you create a material in the GUI, type of material is a pull-down there and "TIMBER" is one of the choices? Yet if you choose "TIMBER" STAAD does not recognize it when you run the analysis. While your answer is technically correct, I think the larger question is, why is timber a choice if STAAD is not going to understand it? Clearly this should be fixed.
