RAM - Cancel tying system

Dear Bentley team,

I am designing a RC Slab. According to my loads and geometrical properties, I end up with 16 bars distributed in a certain area (Strength design). Right, it matches my hand-calculations for ULS.

In addition, it is doing a check to avoid progressive collapse. When I go to “Design Status > Reinforcement Plan” I find out that is considering 64 bars everywhere to provide “tying systems”. It means x4 times more of reinforcement.

I understand that is running the Load history (cracking and deflections) analysis based on the last reinforcement and I am not interested in that. How can I deactivate the option to Design for tying systems??? I tried to select “CS Min. Reinforcement Location = None” at “Design Strip Plan” but it is not related to the tying systems.

Thanks!! Regards, Adrian

  • The program manual, section 63.5.10 "Section 9.10 Tying Systems for Accidental Design Situations", has some details on how 9.10 is implemented in the program. Section 63.4.9 confirms that 9.10 is part of the Accident design of EC2, so as to the original question, it's the Design Rules -> Accident design that you would have to turn off to get around this.
If you want to reply back with your actual model (through the Advanced Reply Editor, preferably zipped), I can take a look to see if there is any other underlying reason for your issue, though I admit EC2 is not my specialty.
