Why to provide release in secondary beams???

Assuming the structure is RCC structure, it is not mandatory to provide release in the secondary beams, the ideal condition can be made for such structure by not assigning any end release ( even the partial moment release ) to simulate the proper monolithic connectivity. However, several structural engineers prefer assigning release at the ends of the secondary beams as to account for the improper secondary beams rebar /hook connectivity with the rebar of the primary beams. So, due to the improper connectivity arising out from the improper workmanship, engineers sometimes assume that the ends of the secondary beams will rotate relative to the primary beam and hence they prefer assigning the end release. So, there is no ready rule that show us how much moment has to be released at the end. All you can do is to assign the partial moment release of 0.99 and check the maximum deflection of the beam. If the deflection exceeds the allowable limit state then keep on lowering the MP value till a acceptable deflection is achieved.
