I have just become aware that STAAD can design single angle members (about principle axis)using the AXIS command. I assumed it is input just like any other design parameter command like this: AXIS 1 MEMBER 1 2 3 4....
I tried this and with the command or without it, post design DC ratios are the same. Is there another command that has to accompany it?
The AXIS parameter will not have any effect on the design of single angles as per the latest AISC 360-05 and AISC 360-10 codes. This is because the software is now equipped to check single angles as per geometric axis by itself, depending on the type of section ( equal or unequal ), type of LTB restraint ( totally unrestrained , totally restrained, or restrained at point of maximum moment ) or presence/absence of axial compression etc.
