Minimum reinforcement (RAM Concept)

Hi,

Firstly I want to thank you for a quick response to my previous question.

I am designing a reinforced transfer slab with RAM Concept. I have defined user reinforcement on top and bottom of the slab, and I have checked that it is more than the minimum requirement of the code. However, the program designs extra reinforcement, most of which is based on AS3600: Clause 9.4.1, which is the minimum reinforcement requirements.
I read in the forum that you have replied to a similar question by suggesting to end the design strips at about 100 to 150 mm from the edge of the slab. I have done this as well (stopped the design strips at about 150mm from any step in the slab), but I am still getting a lot of extra reinforcement for minimum requirements.

I have attached my file. Could you please have a look and comment?

Kind regards,

Ash

  • If you are counting on the sum of the top and the bottom bars to meet the temperature and shrinkage requirements, then both set of user bars should have the slab face option set to "Both". For details see: communities.bentley.com/.../8362

Also note, if the user provided reinforcement is exactly equal to the code minimum requirement then you may see the program adding a bar here and there depending on the width of the strip and the exact spacing of the bars (i.e. rounding up one bar).

Finally, we don't recommend turning off the code minimum design rule (Criteria - Design Rules), but if you are happy with the user provided reinforcement, that is an option.
