i am designing a deck slab supported by steel beams STAAD PRO. i am pretty sure that Ly and UNT values is not the full length of the beams. so what is the recommended values? or should i use the spacing between the shear studs?
Assuming you have a concrete deck on top of steel beams and the fact that the deck will restrain the top flange of the beam laterally, it is fair to use a very small value of LY and UNT. Using the spacing between shear studs is fine as that is a small value anyway compared to the length of the beam. You may as well use something really small like say 0.1 inch.
